Oral Health Care in Barolin

While most people know they are supposed to brush their teeth every day, many do not fully understand that oral health care is also preventative care for your entire body. The health of your teeth can tell you a lot about the health of your other bodily systems, if your teeth and gums are in bad shape it can also lead to several other health conditions. For instance, those with severe tooth decay are at a higher risk of heart disease later in life.

Although the best step you can take toward better oral health is to see your dentist regularly, there are a lot of things you can do at home to ensure you are taking the best possible care of your teeth and gums. Many of these you already know (but may not be doing) and others are things you might not even think about as having anything to do with your teeth.

Brush regularly and the right way – Brushing your teeth is your first line of defence against tooth decay. You should use a soft bristled brush and a fluoride toothpaste, brushing from front to back. Make sure you get every tooth and every surface area. You should also ensure you are brushing long enough – at least two minutes – and that you brush often enough. Ideally you will brush after every meal, but at least twice a day.

Most adults do not floss or do not floss often enough. Ideally you should floss once a day to remove food and debris from between your teeth. Do this gently to avoid being too rough on the gums.

Eat a healthy diet

What you eat has an impact on more than just your waistline. Eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables also encourages healthy teeth and gums. Avoid eating food that is high in sugar and be sure you are getting adequate calcium and vitamin D.

Wear protective gear

If you play an impact sport or engage in other potentially damaging activities (such as rock climbing or martial arts), you should always use a protective mouth guard to ensure your teeth are protected in case you take a hit.

Get regular dental care

You should see your dentist at least once a year but twice a year is even better. If you are having any tooth or gum pain this warrants an extra visit to get to the root cause of the problem. Remember, you will have an easier time avoiding serious dental problems if you have things taken care of as soon as possible.
